Toons! Designing Newcastle United Caricatures

As a long time lover of memorabilia and signed items - I am always looking for new ideas and concepts that will look great and UNIQUE. Everyone has shirts and montages, they are timeless classics, but what ELSE would fans like to see hung on their walls?
Thats why I tried caricatures
This started with a visit to a talk-in event with NUFC matters and looking for an idea to create some memorabilia - originally I created a generic montage of the player, a black and white stadium and the Newcastle badge - whilst this was perfectly acceptable - it just didn't pop and do what I intended

I did a bit of research for inspiration and came up with the idea of cartoons / caricatures of the legends.
Obviously the background changed - I kept the club badge although i changed it to one colour and overlayed it on 'the sun' that is rising over the iconic Tyne Bridge at the bottom of the image - I used a vintage paper background to finish the image off, a white border and the name in a vintage font and the players stats at the bottom - We all love stats!
I then cheated and ran the image of Warren Barton through AI and 'Cartoonized' it

(I know the majority of designers are very anti AI - and whilst I am against it as a blanket for creating posters / logos etc - its a tool that can be used effectively as a designer - and it is definitely here to stay)
I got a limited amount of each printed and taken to Warren - and he kindly signed them for me. He was so pleased with the image he asked if he could have a copy for himself. It turns out he like it so much he has it framed and hanging in his home!
Hear it directly from the mouth of the man himself!

As the designer for NUFC matters - I added the cartoon of Warren to the Thumbnail as a little rib for him!

I have created a few more of these images for other players and they have remained popular with the players - all of which have taken one for themselves! - and I have gifted one of each to The Strawberry pub too - and they are planning to put them on the wall!

As with all designs - I have tried to adapt and create different styles and designs - including a comic book cover style

I do have to thank Micky Quinn too - hes been a great supporter of my work and I give him permission to use these images in any of his talk -ins
Hes always good for a retweet (as well as being a proper legendary number 9)

As a Newcastle fan its always a delight to be able to make memorabilia from the legends of the club - and the fact that Joe Allon, Warren Barton, Kenny Wharton all have my work in their homes is a lovely compliment.
