Designing Football Shirts for Newcastle United Legends and Age UK North East

Darts Shirt design is a passion of mine and it stems from my love of football shirts - I have always loved the culture and meaning behind all the football shirts and what they represent to the clubs, cities and fanbases - its something that I have tried to include in my graphic design and marketing career (not just the shirts)

So when the opportunity arose to create TWO actual football shirts, for legends of Newcastle Utd (the team I support) - I jumped at the chance

The game itself pits a team of 1990s Newcastle legends against some of the North Easts sports journalists in a walking football match - with all the proceeds going to Age Uk

It was my task to create the shirts, for both of the teams - with the only rules being the legends had to play in the classic black and white, the Media Allstars wanted white and DEFINATLEY no red (thats sunderland colours!)

The home shirt was a simple solution - thick black and white stripes - similar to the iconic 90s shirt that is associated with these players, but I added a blue pinstripe and accents (which is a slight reference to the 2000 shirt and blue star on the EARLY 90s shirt) plus it made the shirt more unique and different to a simple striped shirt

In addition to the blue pinstripe down the side of the black stripe - I added a blue fade to the collar and sleeves and blue trim to the sponsors

The Media Allstars shirt - My only guide was to make it plain white, but other than that I had some creative control. I have always been a big fan of the Real Madrid and Tottenham shirts - which are plain white but still have a classy look. So I included gold accents!

I was treating the two shirts as a HOME and AWAY kit - so kept the fade look on the sleeves and added it to the bottom of the shirt - with a golden collar and accents around the sponsors

Both teams will be signing the shirts and selling them for the charity Age UK North Tyneside - and I am delighted to be able to offer my skills in support of this wonderful charity

The fact that the footballers i grew up watching, will be wearing a shirt i designed - is a bonus!
