Sir Geoff Hurst England 1966 Custom Shirt

English football legends don't come any bigger than Sir Geoff Hurst. The only living englishman to have won the World Cup and the only man to have scored a perfect hattrick in a world cup final (left foot, right foot, head).

In England we love our football and love our football legends - and when you compile a list of English football icons - Sir Geoff Hurst has to be on that list!

After launching the concept of bespoke football shirts - I was DELIGHTED that Sir Geoff's managment contacted me and asked me to design two shirts for the World Cup Winner. One England shirt and one West Ham Shirt - with Geoff being one of the three West Ham legends that were in that starting eleven

The challenge of creating these shirts is that - the shirts are instantly recognizeable and pert of the fabric of our culture - everyone knows the red england shirt that was worn when they won the World Cup, and the claret and blue West Ham shirt.

Geoffs shirt number is famous - the photos of him holding the trophy are famous - I had to craete something fresh whilst sticking within these guidelines

First was to create a badge - the England football badge is, as same as everything else, instantly iconic and one of the only decorative parts of the red england shirt

I changed the colour sceme from blue to gold (we are celebrating the biggest win in football) and swapped the three lions for three words SIR. GEOFF. HURST

I experimented with images of the hat trick in the back ground

Images of Sir Geoff were the next challenge - there are many famous images of Geoff in 1966. I wanted to feature him holding the World Cup and make that prominant on the shirt

From a previous Sir Geoff poster I had designed for North West Events - I edited a picture of Sir Geoff to fit the back of the shirt and frame the name and number

I then added the badge under the collar - as this is a sponsors postition on some of the darts shirts I have designed and with the entire point of these shirts is to be framed and mounted - its a shame to lose the badge.

I also added the St Georges Flag in the background and an overlayed image of Sir Geoff Celebrating on the front.

These shirts are now out in the world and have been signed by the living legend himself!

Which for me personally is a complete joy to see, something I am very proud of and Sir Geoff has zero idea of who i am! (and thats fine!) -

The West Ham shirt. Sir Geoff is also a West Ham Legend and he, Bobby Moore and Martin Peters all made England success and The Hammers linked forever - which means there is always a demand for Sir Geoff West Ham items - even from football fans who aren't West Ham fans

As with the England shirt - the badge, photo and colour scheme are vital - its about maintaining the integrity of the shirt and design as well as finding a key moment and memory of the man and his time at the club.
