I have been involved with NUFC matters and Steve Wraith for a couple of years and was recently given the challenge of helping create digital content to promote his movie 'A New Breed of Criminal' with a collection of social media friendly video clips and images.
This movie is written by and starring Steve Wraith and takes inspiration from the real life Sayers Family in Newcastle. Its a British Gangster movie set in the North East and the culture of that part of the world.
The movie is now streaming an various platforms and available to buy in selected stores
My challenge was to create content that 'Sold' the movie on social media
Trailer
My first challenge was to create a trailer - This was a great exercise for me to watch the movie, get a feel for the story and then edit it down to a couple of minutes teaser. Everyone knows the point of a movie trailer and i wanted this one to sit naturally within the market and similar movies. I didn't look at other trailers purposly to ensure mine was unique
It was also a great way to edit and cut MANY, MANY clips from the movie that would become helpful later in the task
Pictures
A picture tells 1000 words, as the saying goes and I needed to create a series of images to be posted on various social platforms. I made the decision to use a third of the image space to promote the movie title and strap line, as well as the buying / streaming details. Simply because all people scrolling on socials will only see it for a split second and I put as much information in that one place as possible to capture the attention in that split second

Videos
Similar to the images - and in the era of tiktok and doom scrolling - the time to capture a potential customers attention is minimal! So I added the films logo, strap line and details to the video. Each was set to 1920x1080 for optimal size on Tiktok, Facebook and Insta stories
This is where all the edots and clips I took from the trailer came in useful, as I now had a version in my mind of what the target audience would want and expect from this movie
I simply chose the best clips from the movie, all in bitesize clips and edited them with the graphic overlayed
These clips are good for stories - but for a more permanent post on Social media - A differnt style of video had to be created. The concept was the same, in that we needed to give as much information as possible to capture the customers attention.
Without the overkill of all the posters and more focus on the ACTUAL video content
For this I went with the 1080x1350 size thats ideal for socials and put the movies title / logo at the bottom, so everyone understands the movies name and concept, then at the top a quote from the clip attached to sell the content - with the movie poster blurred out as the background so that all the focus is on the video (which is central to the overall image)
Hopefully these images and videos capture the attention of the fans and it brings success to the movie and more opportunities for me to continue creating content in this field!
