Firstly the abbreviation FFS is absolutely brilliant and the fact that it is being run by Matt McGibbon, who has had the nickname FUNKY for 40 years now - I knew this logo design and the funk and soul night would be something very special indeed
Matt likes to get involved with the design process and has a very clear idea of what he is after and the tone of his brand, yet is always open to my ideas and influence too, which is a working environment that I enjoy - No-one knows the brand like the client, yet I always feel my outside influence and ideas will show them a world away from their own ideas
My original idea was to create a character to represent the event, in a way similar to Walt Jasbco from the 2tone records - and instantly recognisable icon that could be used in a variety of merchandise and images. Clearly he had to be a 'funky gibbon' with a retro ska / funk vibe

Just having a 2tone themed ape is not enough to sell a brand new event - and it certainly doesn't project the story of the event and the brand. From researching funk and soul iconography and replicated the colour scheme of red, orange, yellow and black that are typically seen on the 1970s era music flyers and album covers
The end design would be circular and replicate the centre of a 45 vinyl with the retro colour scheme, vintage textures and icons that reflect both the funk and soul side of the new event
